The Hazelwood YMCA was established as an outreach branch in 1971. Today, it is a community site and offers programs to keep youths off the streets and engaged in positive activities like karate, soccer and computer training. It also operates a food pantry, a soup kitchen, day camp and an after-school program to meet the basic needs of community members and provides computer training to citizens in the community. The YMCA is an active partner in the community collaborating with other organizations in Hazelwood.
The facility boasts a large recreation room, a game room, an art room, a child-safe internet equipped computer lab, a large food pantry, a kitchen and a conference room.

SilverSneakers I Muscular Strength & Range of Movement Class
SilverSneakers Yoga Stretch on Wednesdays
Muscular Strength & Range of Movement is the core class of the SilverSneakers Program. Strength & Range of Movement benefits are the focus of this creative multi-level conditioning exercise program. This workshop offers program objectives, format criteria, risk management modifications, intensity level changes and LOTS of choreography with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and balls. Eligible HighMark plans are: Medigap Blue, Freedom Blue, and Security Blue. Members of these HighMark plans are eligible to sign up to become SilverSneakers members, at no cost to them. The membership is valid anywhere that is a host site for SilverSneakers.
Available to anyone who wants to join, regardless of age or insurance. A minimal fee is required for those whose insurance plan does not include SilverSneakers as a benefit.

A.S.A.P. Age: 5 - 13 years old. Twice a week, Activate Pittsburgh, a health and wellness initiative designed for children, is included in our program. The goals include increasing physical activity, providing education about good nutrition, and development of life long healthy habits along side the regular components of tutoring, homework time, fun and games.

The Hazelwood YMCA currently works in collaboration with Pittsburgh Mifflin K-8 to provide structured recess activities to all school age students. Through a uniquely designed program that incorporates game play, skill mastery and teambuilding, students build physical fitness, self-esteem, and cooperation skills while participating in highly structure quality programming.
The Hazelwood YMCA is fully licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and our summer camp programs are packed with lots of fun and excitement. We provide children ages 5 -13 years with education, cultural activities, arts & humanities, character development, life skills, fitness, health & wellness, literacy and technology. We take regular trips to local parks and swimming pools as well as weekly field trips. Subsidies including DPW, CYF and Child Care Partnerships are accepted. Breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks are provided daily. At the end of the summer, parents and children will have an opportunity to participate in an ultimate overnight camping experience at Camp Kon-O-Kwee.
Financial assistance is available to all families and sibling discounts are offered to families with more than one child. Financial Assistance/Scholarships are provided with funds raised through the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign.
Extended Hour Care Options are available.
Registration - All of our Summer Campers are members of the YMCA. If your child is not currently a member, you can register him/her as a Program member for a one time annual fee.
A non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 and the first week’s payment is required to register and hold a spot for your child in camp. All other payments are due 2 weeks prior to date of service for each week your child will be enrolled in camp. Additional paperwork is required to complete registration and will be provided once your deposit has been made.

Pittsburgh LEARNS is the result of a unique collaboration between the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Wireless Neighborhoods and the Hazelwood YMCA. This six week program focuses on a fun, innovative academic enrichment program, nutrition and life skills activities. Students must be testing at basic or below basic in math or reading to qualify.

This program will meet weekly for practices and games. Your child will learn the basics of deck hockey while enjoying the benefits of regular exercise, team building and having fun. With a focus on fair play, youth sports make values a priority by instilling respect, caring and trustworthiness. Everybody plays on the YMCA team! Equipment for the season is provided by Dick's Sporting Goods, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Club. Winter registration dates and times to be announced.

Parent Engagement - The Hazelwood YMCA believes that parents play a significant role in student achievement. In order to encourage and foster improved student achievement, our after-school program works to involve parents in the educational process by:
Ensuring that they are informed about what is happening both at school and in our after-school program
Providing them with the tools they need to assist their child with homework
Connecting them with other parents so that they have a network of support
Encouraging them to volunteer at the school or at the after-school program

Each day in this program, students complete homework, are provided with a nutritious snack and dinner, engage in a ninety minute academic learn through play curriculum and participate in a recreational component. Students use the computer lab for educational games and reading comprehension activities weekly. Students participate in character development and life skills activities weekly. Transportation home is provided.

The YMCA After School Program is an affordable, state-licensed after school program that provides children with safe, nurturing, high quality childcare. Children receive daily hot meals, homework assistance and academic tutoring. In addition, our newly structured enrichment choice program enables parents and their children to schedule creative arts and athletic activities that best meet the needs of each individual child. Each program day, students are presented with two distinct enrichment modules; at the end of an eight week period, our enrichment courses are restructured in an attempt to expose students to a wide variety of learning opportunities including dance, world cultures, foreign language, visual arts, soccer, and much more! Transportation is provided from Mifflin, Minadeo and Greenfield schools. Full day childcare is also provided on most holidays and school in-service days.

The Food Pantry is a supplementary program to assist individuals and families in meeting their most basic of needs.
Distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 10 am – 12 noon. To register, proof of income or a signed non-income affidavit (provided on-site), proof of address and ID for all household members is required.
Emergency food services are provided on a needs based basis and are by appointment only.

Provides accessibility to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to the residents and employees in the Hazelwood area. Conveniently located by the Hazelwood Towers Highrise and Rite Aid. We are set up in S & R Market's (formally Dairy Mart) parking lot on Second Avenue.
Forms of payment accepted are ACCESS Food Stamps, WIC and Senior FMNP vouchers as well as Cash.
Hours are every Thursday from 11 am until 2:30 pm. The Farm Stand runs from June 11, 2009 November 12, 2009.
This farm stand is here to serve the community and to bring a much needed service to the local residents. We welcome comments and suggestions to better serve the community through the farm stand.
The Mifflin Y Achievers program works in collaboration with the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and the United Way of Greater Pittsburgh to assist middle school students in exploring viable career options in the field of healthcare.
