Branch Description
In May 2006, 50 years after opening the North Hills YMCA branch, the YMCA moved into our new home on Nicholson Road in Franklin Park. We are very excited to open the Baierl Family YMCA. Located at the facility are both indoor and outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art health and wellness center, group exercise studio, climbing wall, five locker rooms, a gymnasium, a running/walking track, and a Child Watch Center.
 
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh builds strong kids, strong families, strong communities through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Saturday - 7:00am - 7:00pm
Sunday - 11:00am - 7:00pm
  
Pool closes 15 minutes prior to building closing.

Child Watch Hours
Monday - Thursday: 8:30am - 1:30pm & 5pm - 8:00pm

Children ages 6 months to 11 years of age may be left in the Child Watch Center for up to 90 minutes per day.  There is no charge for full facility members.  Parents must be in the facility while children are in Child Watch.

  • AWAY - As a member, you're part of the AWAY program which gives you access to YMCA's  in the USA outside a 50 mile radius from your home YMCA, as long as the YMCA you are visiting participates in this program. AWAY - Any Where Any Y.  Limited to 14 days per year per member.  Use of the AWAY card at the Baierl Family YMCA is limited to 14 visits per year.

ALL YOUTH UNDER 12 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN THE YMCA FACILITY.  GUESTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A MEMBER WHO IS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
 
Youth under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult in the Wellness Center or on the track. Under 12 not permitted in the Wellness Center or on the track except during family time on the track.
 
 
FAMILY MEMBERSHIPS - apply to households with a maximum of two adults residing at the same address, and children who are full-time students residing at the same address until their 22nd birthday; 18 years of age if they are not full-time students.  Photo identification may be required.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Isshinryu Karate is a highly effective and practical street oriented method of self defense using powerful strikes, kicks and blocks. This class incorporates Karate techniques with joint locks, chokes, throws and defense against weapons. Women are encouraged to join.  This program is 10 consecutive weeks and is offered on a continuous basis.  Join any Thursday.

Location:Baierl Family YMCA

The Baierl Family YMCA follows the nationally recognized YMCA Swim Lessons Program, developed by experts and field tested by Y aquatic instructors. 

 
All children not potty trained must wear protective swim pants in the pool.
 
Classes are based on seven lessons of intensive and progressive teaching techniques.  Six out of seven lessons are guaranteed.
 
The aquatic director or swim lesson coordinator will have a brief meeting with parents before the start of each session.  Procedures will be explained and any questions will be answered.
 
Participants must shower before entering the pool.
 
All participants with hair to the shoulders or longer must either tie it back or wear a swim cap.
 
No refunds will be given after the start of the session.
 
All classes will be closed for registration at 9pm on the Wednesday before the session starts. Staffing levels will be addressed at this time.

Friday Float Fest is designed for families to come out and enjoy swimming as a family.  Floats big and small are provided, but you can bring your own!!

Rally Information

These programs begin in October and continue throughout the school year. These are family programs designed for father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, or mother/daughter.   In these YMCA programs, it is understood that the parent serves as a guide in a child’s life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence, and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. Some of our activities include, picnics, boating, fishing, horseback riding, crafts, derby races and campouts.

Teen Leaders Club is a Teen Led, Teen Driven club for teens ages 12-17 who are interested in building their leadership skills, gaining valuable teamwork experience, and working in their community through volunteer opportunities.  Leaders work throughout the school year to make a difference by serving their community and participating in social and team building activities.  Teens meet once per week to plan upcoming events and volunteer activities.  If you would like to meet new people and learn new things contact Melanee Ferrier at 724-934-9622 or email her at mferrier@ymcapgh.org.

Aktion Club

Location:North Hills
Dates:Begins in December

The Kiwanis Club of Allegheny North and the Baierl Family YMCA are currently seeking charter members for a Kiwanis Aktion Club in Northern Allegheny County. Aktion Club membership is open to adults over the age of 18 with physical or mental disabilities. The club will meet regularly in the North Hills for social activities and community service.
The Mission of Aktion Club is to provide adults with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative and leadership skills, to serve the community, to be integrated into society and to demonstrate the dignity and value of citizens living with disabilities.

Other
YMCA staff will run sports activities for your son or daughter for one hour in the gym or you can have a one hour swim in the pool.  You also receive one hour in the community room for your party.
