Welcome! When you join the YMCA, you join more than a facility with exercise equipment and a gym. Yes, it is a place to improve one’s physical wellness level. But the YMCA is different. There is something for every member of the family. It is a place where friends gather and encourage each other. The YMCA organization has been around for more than 150 years. It is not because of a facility's amenities but because of people and relationships.
Character Development The YMCA Character Development program consists of four core values. It is our goal to incorporate and share these core values with our members, program participants, staff, and volunteers.
Caring Red Represents the Heart
Honesty Blue Be True Blue
Respect Yellow The Golden Rule
Responsibility Green For the Environment

What is Wellness? “Wellness is health in spirit, mind, and body. It is much more than just not being sick. Wellness means feeling good, taking care of your body, and liking yourself, your family and your friends. Wellness also means making the most of what you have, being hopeful in good times and bad, and living your life in the most satisfying way possible.”
Activate Pittsburgh is part of the national initiative Activate America, which is bringing together public and private partners to respond to the nation’s epidemic of chronic disease and obesity. As one of many participating YMCAs across the nation, Activate Pittsburgh's focus areas include physicial activity, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and smoking cessation.
YMCA Wellness Centers are equipped with all the essential elements for our members to exercise. Our experienced, knowledgeable and personable training staff provides members with professional guidance through a step-by-step equipment orientation. Our goal is to have our members understand not only what being physically fit means, but also why it is so important to have an overall mental and spiritual well-being.
We hope you will take advantage of YOUR YMCA, as we exist to provide members the means to a better way of life! We look forward to helping you get on your way. Please see a Wellness Consultant before starting on your program.

During the summer of 2009, the East Suburban Family YMCA served an average of 260-310 children in a traditional day camp every week. We also hosted many children in before and after camp for those parents who needed extended care for thier children. The kids look forward to building relationships with their friends, counselors and group leaders in a safe and nurturing setting. Our facilities include 56 acres of wooded trails, three outdoor swimming pools, soccer and kickball field, outdoor basketball court, deck hockey rink, full size indoor gymnasium and a large pavilion and playgroud area. Favorite activities off-site include many field trips to various places like Pirates games, bowling, and state parks.
YMCA youth sports offers boys and girls opportunities to learn and enjoy sports without pressure and competition. Our goals: fun, fair play, and learning! Caring adult supervisors and coaches will give your child quality instruction. All the equipment your child will need is provided, unless otherwise noted. With weekly games or practices, we provide great support for your child in a safe and nurturing environment.

YMCA Adventure Guides, formerly know as Indian Guides, is a family program designed for a parent and his or her 5-9 year old child. In YMCA Adventure Guides, it is understood that the parent serves as a guide in a child’s life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence, and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. They lead by example as they set their children on a path through life. In the Adventure Guides program, the journey occurs within the context of a small Circle community. The Circle is the program’s basic unit, providing a structure, sense of community, and support for all group activities.
