PNC YMCA

IT FEELS GOOD TO DO GOOD

Fundraising Thermometer“You don’t understand. I have to keep coming to Achievers. It’s the only place I can go where somebody actually notices I’m here.”

Those were the words tearfully spoken by Christian, a 13 year old member of the Y Achievers program at the Hazelwood Y. For two years he’d struggled in the program-refusing to participate, prone to angry outbursts and frequent fights. At school he was failing classes and often suspended. A Y staff member finally pulled Christian aside and warned him he would be expelled if his behavior didn’t improve. Christian’s tearful response had an immediate impact: the program coordinators developed an individualized improvement plan and worked with him one on one to help address his many issues. Since then Christian has made vast improvements at both the Y and school. He still struggles, but his attitude and interest have changed and Christian now thinks and talks about his future.

Each day the Y has a chance to make a difference in the lives of children like Christian-but we can’t do it without you. Your gift helps fund programs so youngsters can grow to their fullest potential.

Y Stories

It’s your Y. Tell us your story.

Everyday at the Y, members of our community, like you, inspire us with the remarkable things you are doing to grow stronger in spirit, mind, and body–and we want to know about it! Perhaps there was a time in your past where an experience with the YMCA has made a memorable impact. The PNC YMCA is looking for members willing to share their YMCA stories.

Don’t think you have a story to tell? Think again.

No story is too insignificant if it inspires just one other person to follow a path to a life of better health and well-being. Email your 150-250 word story to Dana at dslavic@ymcapgh.org and we’ll enter you into a drawing to win a month of free membership!
