IT FEELS GOOD TO DO GOOD
“My daughter’s self-confidence, independence and skills have grown.”
A mother came into the Western Area Y to talk to us about summer day camp for her special needs child. She wanted her daughter to experience the friendships, fun and excitement of summer camp, but could not afford the standard fee. A member overheard the story and immediately made a gift to the Building Bridges Campaign so the child could attend camp. Later, this grateful mom told us that her daughter’s time at camp greatly increased her independence and self-esteem. Although the donor has moved out of the area, he continues to make an annual gift to the campaign so this child and others can experience summer camp.
We helped. We cared. We made a difference in a child’s life.

About Us
Branch Description
The Western Area YMCA shares the YMCA’s character development focuses of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. It is our goal to incorporate these values into our programs and share them through the delivery of quality services that focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
The Western Area YMCA has an extensive history of providing programs to the western suburbs of Pittsburgh dating back to its original presence as the Coraopolis YMCA constructed in 1911. In 1933, the Coraopolis YMCA became part of the YMCA of Pittsburgh and expanded its services to serve the employees of the industrial community in the western region of Pittsburgh. Through the years, the facility experienced severe deterioration, so a former racquet club was purchased near the Pittsburgh International Airport in 1983 and the facility was reopened as the Western Area YMCA.
