
As summer quickly approaches, First Niagara Bank, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins challenge the community to Pool Together for Swim Safety to help kids in the City of Pittsburgh have access to important basic swimming instruction needed to reduce their risk of drowning.
There is a critical need for basic swim safety instruction in the urban minority youth communities where drowning rates are 2.6 times higher. Seventy percent of African-American young children and 58 percent of Hispanic children can’t swim and have a strong fear of drowning.

First Niagara has already contributed $100,000. Help a child learn how to swim by purchasing a limited-edition Pool Together for Swim Safety aluminum water bottle for $10 at a local YMCA, with 100 percent of proceeds supporting this program. For every 12 water bottles sold, one more local child will benefit from the Y’s swim program and be at lower risk of drowning this summer.
